What are the carrier requirements to haul loads with Amazon?

In order to join Amazon’s freight network, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A DOT number, with interstate authority and that has been active for a minimum of 180 days, and a valid MC number. Apply even if your DOT authority hasn’t been active for 180 days and we’ll keep you updated on key program news while you wait to join our network.
  • A “Carrier” entity type that is Authorized for Property and for Hire
  • A Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Safety Rating of “Satisfactory,” “None,” or “Not Rated”
  • Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories (BASIC) scores:
    • Unsafe Driving below 60%
    • HOS Compliance below 60%
    • Vehicle Maintenance below 75%
    • Controlled Substances/Alcohol below 75%
    • Driver Fitness below 75%
  • Violation rate metrics

    • Driver violation rate at or below 35%
    • Vehicle violation rate at or below 50%
  • All required insurance policies including:
    • Commercial General Liability not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 in the aggregate
    • Auto Liability not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence, including a trailer replacement coverage of $50,000
    • Cargo coverage of at least $100,000
    • Workers’ compensation insurance in all jurisdictions where your company operates

What are the onboarding requirements for a driver to start hauling Amazon loads?

A carrier needs to invite their drivers to create a profile in the Relay app. Drivers will then need to complete identity verification by submitting a selfie and a photo of their driver’s license. Finally, drivers will need to provide details to initiate a background check - all drivers onboarding to Relay must meet standardized background check requirements before hauling Amazon Relay loads.

What are the service level expectations?

Amazon requires that carriers ensure the highest level of safety and performance, including:

  • Compliance with safety, DOT and insurance requirements.
  • On-time delivery to delight our customer promise.
  • Consistent tender acceptance.
  • Execute loads using Amazon Relay technology.

What type of equipment does Relay accept?

Relay currently accept the following equipment types:

Tractors:

  • Day cab
  • Sleeper cab

Box trucks:

  • 26' box truck with a functional tuck-under lift-gate
  • 16' box truck with a functional tuck-under lift-gate

Trailers:

  • 48’ trailer
  • 53’ dry van
  • 53’ reefer
  • 20’, 40’, and 45’ high cube containers (UIIA compliant)

When can I start moving loads?

Once we receive your company’s completed application, the application will be approved or rejected within 1-3 weeks. Delays, if any, will be due to validation of insurance information. Amazon urges you to have all data ready prior to applying and reach out to your insurance provider in the event of any delays. Once your application is approved and you complete a few digital courses in Relay’s Learning Center, you’ll immediately be able to book loads from our load board. You will also be able to access Amazon Relay Portal FAQs and operating guides for existing carriers that will provide useful information on how to operate successfully within our network.

When will I get paid for completed loads?

Payment cycle runs weekly from Sunday-Saturday. Everything completed before 23:59 Saturday will be paid out the following week on Friday.

Does Amazon tender loads through any third-party load boards?

Amazon does not tender loads through any third-party load boards. Any Amazon loads posted on third-party load boards will only be tendered directly to approved and onboarded carriers via the Relay web portal or Relay mobile app. If you are interested in hauling loads for Amazon, sign up and book directly on relay.amazon.com.

How do I report suspicions of unauthorized access to my company’s account?

If you suspect any unauthorized access on your Amazon Relay account (e.g., unauthorized account setup, password/ e-mail/ user/ phone number/ bank account change), or any account security issue, you can contact us at amazon-engagement@amazon.com. Amazon does not request personal information like passwords, OTPs, and credit card numbers over phone or e-mail. How can I report suspicious activity within the Amazon Relay network?

If you’re in a life-threatening situation, please call 9-1-1. To report suspicious activities (e.g. double brokering) that are not an emergency, email relay-network-reports@amazon.com with a detailed description of the suspicious activity, including the DOT #s involved (if known). You’ll receive an automated email confirming receipt and you’ll be contacted if additional information is needed. How does Amazon Relay use facial recognition information for carrier owners?

Amazon may require beneficial owners of Transportation Companies to provide a photo for identification purposes. Amazon may derive a scan of your face geometry or similar biometric data for identification purposes (“Facial Recognition Information”) from (i) your provided photos, and (ii) your driver’s license or government-issued ID. Amazon uses your Facial Recognition Information derived from such photos for identification purposes, including to make sure that your log-in credentials are not misused by a third party, or to identify and address fraud, theft, and other incidents. We will seek your consent before collecting your Facial Recognition Information.

This Notice governs our retention of your photos and Facial Recognition Information in connection with your Transportation Company’s provision of services to Amazon. Amazon may retain Facial Recognition Information for up to 30 days after it is generated for identification purposes or longer if needed for purposes of fraud detection and investigation, pursuant to our legal obligations, or as otherwise communicated to you. Thereafter, Amazon will promptly delete the Facial Recognition Information. Note that this means Amazon may need to retain your Facial Recognition Information after your Transportation Company stops providing services to Amazon for purposes of ongoing fraud detection and investigation. Amazon will retain your photos while your Transportation Company provides services to Amazon thereafter for so long as permitted by law.

Amazon may disclose your photos to our third-party providers or have such third-party providers collect your photo directly via use of their technology, but such third-party providers will only be permitted to access, use, retain, and share Facial Recognition Information for the purpose of providing services to Amazon or improving services provided to Amazon as described in this Notice and only in a manner consistent with this Notice. Amazon does not otherwise share your photos or Facial Recognition Information with any third parties and does not sell your photos or Facial Recognition Information.
