Book contracts & bid on auctions for consistent revenue
When you know what’s coming every week, you can plan around it, hire to it, or grow from it. Relay’s contracts and auctions offer committed freight, steady lanes, and revenue you can bring in week to week. Contracts and auctions give you the freedom to plan ahead, building from a stable base: named lanes, known rates.
Here’s what’s new about contracts and auctions in 2026:
- Long-duration contracts: You can now lock in roundtrips on Relay for months.
- Split auctions: Auctions now offer multi-carrier awards, domicile-to-domicile auctions, and bulk bidding. You don’t have to bid all-or-nothing on volume you can’t sustain. Auctions split across carriers, so you commit what you can handle. Relay’s auto-accept feature also means you don’t miss contract awards. No limited-time acceptance window or monitoring a tab. When you win, it’s yours.
*Relay carriers must have a B+ performance grade or above to view and book contracts (C+ for auctions).
Grow into new load types
Amazon’s freight network is diversifying, allowing carriers to branch out. And all without requiring more trucks or harder-to-find drivers. Some of these require additional certifications. Some just require knowing they exist and that you’re eligible. Amazon is creating more ways to earn, based on what works best for your equipment, your domicile, and your schedule.
- Amazon Freight is hauling for external shippers now. That means loads from companies that aren’t Amazon are flowing through Relay’s load board and auctions. More variety in your domicile.
- Less-than-a-truckload is expanding to 42 terminals this year, up from 31. 11 new metro areas are coming online. If LTL wasn’t available where you operate before, it might be now.
- Intermodal and drayage is part of the expansion. Daily port and rail short-haul loads, typically under 100 miles, so multiple runs can fit in a day. You’re moving 53’ containers provided by Amazon (including chassis). Uniform Intermodal Interchange Agreement certification is a standard and simple sign up, not a certification exam. This is the UIIA that lets your drivers into rail yards.
- Hostler and shuttle. Hostler is power-only local yard moves, offered daily. Shuttle is the big expansion: redistributing trailers between Amazon yards and facilities on short-haul routes, usually within 25 miles. Shuttle is growing into new geographies, expanding to SoCal and beyond. Both are predictable, high-frequency, and you just need a day cab or hostler truck.
- Grocery is growing fast. 40+ new sites launching. Same-day grocery delivery is expanding from 1,000 to 2,300 locations. If you have reefer equipment or are considering it, this is a growing pool of temperature-controlled loads in more geographies.
- Pharmacy is coming. These are even more temperature-controlled transshipments targeting end of 2026. If you’re already running reefer for grocery, pharmacy is adjacent loads from the same equipment investment.

- Saved search alerts notify you when a matching load posts. Set your preferences once. When something matching your equipment, your lane, and your schedule appears, you’re notified. No more checking and hoping.
