This article is based on the keynote “Owning safety on the road & in the community” presented by Hareesh Krishnan at RelayCon 2025.
Building a culture of safety isn’t just about responding well when challenges arise. It’s also about creating an environment where every driver, every dispatcher, every team member is focused on preventing risks before they become problems.
To help you accomplish this, Amazon Relay provides the right tools to help you make the right calls. Here’s how we’re adding to our existing safety tech to make it easier for Relay carriers to build a culture of prevention.
Relay Learning Center
Safety culture is easier when everyone has access to quality resources. So, in August, we made it possible for carriers to easily assign drivers courses, track their progress, and document completion - all in one place.
The Relay Learning Center has a library of safety, maintenance, and compliance courses, putting you in control of your drivers’ education. We also offer course collections, each containing a curated list of resources that you can assign all at once.
“I definitely plan to use these features to help onboard my new drivers. I can send them the exact resources they need and track what they’ve completed. It’s going to save me so much time.”
Smarter equipment design
All of Amazon’s new trailer purchases have roll-up doors instead of swing doors, making docking and undocking easier and safer for carriers’ teams.
Additionally, our new trailers have installed rollover preventing brakes. This tech uses sensors and advanced control logic to detect conditions that could lead to a vehicle roll-over. Then, it automatically applies individual trailer brakes to slow the vehicle and help your driver maintain stability.
Up to 63,000 truck-related crashes can be prevented with safety technology.
Trailer visibility
By the end of this year, more than 65,000 Amazon branded trailers will be equipped with flashing auxiliary lamps and reflective tape. This change has reduced rear-end collisions by 26% this year by making the vehicles more visible.
Relay safety rewards
We’re expanding our beta program for Relay safety rewards. When you adopt dashcams, and maintain safe driving, you can earn additional payments for every crash-free mile. That’s prevention that pays.
To make prevention more affordable, we’ve also partnered with industry leaders like Netradyne, Motive, and Verizon Connect to give you discounts on dashcams.
Access to timely, actionable data
Prevention is easier when you have access to your data. We’ve partnered with FMCSA to capture your BASIC scores and update your Relay Safety Scorecard directly in the carrier portal. This enables you to make informed decisions for your business, so you can stay ahead on compliance and stay safe on the road.
Join a safety-first culture with Relay
The technology we create, along with innovations spearheaded by our industry partners, contributes to a strong safety culture, and reduces crash frequency and severity. Your decisions set the tone for how far, how safely, and how successful you can be with Amazon.
