Amazon Relay is striving to be the safest possible transportation option for drivers, carriers, and the communities where we operate. To accomplish this, we need carriers that lead and prioritize safety. Here’s how Relay’s road safety tech helps carriers with a mindset of prevention empower drivers to make the safe choice, every time.
Enhanced weather information
The Relay app tells drivers what’s going on along a route before the route starts and sends safety recommendations during inclement weather. So rain or shine, Relay carriers and their drivers will know what to expect while hauling Relay freight.
Features include:
- Pre-trip weather summaries with a forecast along the driver’s route, 24 hours before the trip starts.
- Real-time weather alerts that notify the driver of weather changes.
- Safety suggestions to drivers for the best course of action.
In the coming months, the Relay app will also identify National Weather Service alerts and major DOT closures likely to affect your trips. Your company’s drivers can proactively check Relay Navigation for weather alerts before their wheels are on the road.
This update will also mean that when you reject a load due to severe weather, we’ll automatically validate the weather event, and it won’t impact your Relay performance score.
Commercial navigation
The Relay app includes optional commercial navigation. Our trucking technology routes drivers to Amazon drop-off and pick-up sites. Unlike non-commercial products and maps, Relay’s in-app navigation has truck-specific features that help drivers get to their destinations safely with…
- Truck routing software that avoids country and neighborhood roads, low bridges, and road segments restricted by the Department of Transportation.
- Indications for safest turning lanes.
Semi-truck parking locator
No one wants their drivers pulled over on the side of a highway or searching for semi-truck parking when they’re approaching their hours limit. And no community member wants trucks parked in their neighborhood.
To address this, Amazon Relay launched a 1-tap feature in Relay Navigation that enables drivers to easily route to the nearest semi-truck-friendly parking spot. We now display parking options over the map view to offer a visual for semi-truck parking locations along the route.
By the end of the 2025, we’ll also make it easier for your drivers to plan their stops by integrating parking location options into their pre-trip briefing.
Human trafficking reports
Creating a safer industry isn’t just for carriers and drivers. Relay has taken an active role in preventing human trafficking, with courses that tell carriers and drivers how to spot suspicious behavior. We’ve also added an easy-to-use “Truckers Against Trafficking” button to our Relay app, where carriers and drivers can quickly report suspected trafficking.
Drive a positive impact through safety
Right now, on Relay, you’ll find thousands of trips – each offering an opportunity to keep your business earning, while contributing to worthy causes across the country. But it can only happen when you have a strong foundation rooted in safety and people.
If your leadership model prioritizes safety every time, sign up for Relay. Check if your business meets Relay’s carrier requirements, then start your Relay application on your desktop or in our app on iOS or Android.
