Amazon’s trucking contracts provide carriers with runs for a single week up to 10 weeks. So, if there’s a one-way lane or roundtrip route your company loves, you may be able to book it regularly on Relay. You can also use contracts to fill drivers’ schedules during a slow season to keep revenue stable.
Whether you’re looking for a long-haul or quick roundtrips that get your driver back home same-day, Amazon Relay has routes to keep trucks moving.
Here’s how it works.
Amazon’s trucking contract types
Amazon Relay’s contract marketplace offers partial and full-week opportunities for reefers, box trucks, and power-only (including intermodal). Contracts are made up of pre-planned “blocks’ of time in which two or more trips are assigned. We have four types of trucking contracts:
- Full-week trucking contracts: Full weeks of work for individual and team drivers.
- Partial-week trucking contracts: Variable amount of work per week (with minimum and maximum limits) for individual drivers.
- Reservation contracts: Three blocks of work per week for individual drivers. We still pay a competitive rate if the full block of time isn’t used.
- Standby contracts: Include an exact start date and time within which Amazon may tender a load.
“Short-term contracts and auctions allow me to find dependable work for my drivers that I know will get them back home.”
Amazon’s trucking contract lengths
You can filter Amazon’s trucking contracts on Relay by the length of haul that fits your business. Each contract length will return your drivers home on a different schedule, with 13-hour solo offering the quickest return.
- 13-hour solo full-week contract: Five 13-hour blocks in a given week, requiring 1 driver and 1 day cab. After thirteen hours of trips, your driver will return to their starting point.
- 37-hour solo contracts: You’ll be tendered three 37-hour pre-planned blocks of time.
- 119-hour team contracts: 1 roundtrip block, requiring two drivers.
- 109-hour solo contracts: 1 roundtrip block over 5 consecutive days, requiring only 1 driver. Your drivers will have two consecutive days off, primarily on weekends.
- Multi-week contract opportunities up to 10 weeks: When work is scarce, keep drivers on the road by locking in blocks early with upfront rates. Just filter by contract duration on Relay. These longer-duration contracts are ideal for keeping a portion of your fleet consistently moving, while freeing up the rest of your fleet to book spot work on Relay’s load board.
All contract types require a sleeper cab when drivers will be spending nights over the road (except 13-hour solo).
How to book Amazon’s trucking contracts
You can book freight contracts on Amazon Relay with a single click or by bidding on an auction.
- Auctions: Freight bidding is a chance to name your own price. Along with the contract’s information, Relay’s auctions show you the leading bid and time left in the auction so you can make your best offer. We also offer the ability to bid in bulk and automate your lowest bidding threshold, so you don’t have to monitor auctions. The carrier in good standing with the most competitive bid typically wins the auction.
- Single click: If you don’t want to bid, simply hit “Book” when you find a trucking contract with dates, equipment types, driver types (team or solo), and estimated payout that works for your business.
Book contracts and bid on available auctions based on the following features:
Auctions: domicile, lane (specific warehouse)
Auctions: open bidding
Auctions: one-way
Schedule your drivers
Once you book your contract, you can specify your driver’s availability in a given week and assign them to a block of time. Individual drivers have the option to come home every day or every other day, and team drivers can return every five days.
