How Relay carriers delivered essentials during food crisis

The 43-day government shutdown left millions of Americans facing food insecurity as emergency SNAP benefits expired. Food banks and charities saw a surge in demand just as donations declined. That’s when Amazon’s logistics network kicked into high gear.

Through Amazon Local Good and Amazon Relay, carriers turned their trucking expertise into a force for positive change, delivering essential items to food banks across four states. Here’s how they kept peak season routes running smoothly while bringing relief to neighbors in need.

Making every mile count

Looking across the Amazon fulfillment network, Amazon Local Good identified crucial supplies for families struggling with reduced SNAP benefits, including non-perishable food, infant formula, and diapers.

Then, Amazon Local Good identified 10 strategic fulfillment centers that could support an emergency donation drive. The loads were listed on Amazon Relay, where approved carriers book Amazon loads. The carriers’ linehaul efforts brought 25 pallets to food banks in Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, and Maryland.

“We so appreciate Amazon’s support. These goods help fill some of our highest priority areas for neighbors in need. We are excited to give the donation of items to our neighbors, especially during the holiday season!”

Through Amazon’s coordination with four food banks, Relay carriers delivered 24,200 units of essential items, including:

“The amount you all are sending over is enough for us to be able to provide up to 3,179 meals! What an impact! Outstanding! You all are amazing! Thank you!”
