How H&M Logistics Inc. uses Amazon Relay’s performance score for growth

This interview was conducted during RelayCon 2025. It has been edited and condensed for length.

Mesfer Alsharman worked as a logistics coordinator for a large shipper, but he had a dream to own a trucking company. So, in 2018, he transitioned to running operations and dispatch for a friend’s business that hauled with Amazon Relay. Mesfer used the next four years to learn the business and save his earnings.

In 2022, he purchased his first truck and launched H&M Logistics Inc. Within just three years, Mesfer has grown his fleet to 14 trucks. We talked to Mesfer about his enthusiasm for Amazon’s mission and how he takes advantage of Relay’s performance score for growth.

How have you scaled your business while maintaining performance?

I’ve found success by keeping more drivers than I have trucks. That way we can constantly work, and it helps when someone can’t do a load.

We focus a lot of time on meeting Amazon’s performance standards as well – on-time arrival, consistent load execution, limited load disruptions, and Relay app usage on hauls. Hauling with Amazon has helped us understand what’s needed for successful operations.

“When I saw how Amazon valued everyone’s time - from customers to drivers to carriers - I knew this was different. I feel like I’m part of something special – where I can see my contribution making a difference.”
Mesfer Alsharman

How do you handle load disruptions and delays?

Being proactive is everything - we immediately notify dispatch about potential delays and actively work on solutions. I’ve trained my drivers to write detailed load notes and call Relay’s Operations Center about disruptions.

For example, if the reason for delay is extreme weather, but the driver starts to run out of Hours of Service because they’re on the side of the road during a storm, the driver needs to communicate that original reason for delay to Relay.

Showing my drivers exactly why something was in our control and what wasn’t helps them understand performance expectations. Clarity is a huge factor for us.

How do you use Amazon Relay’s learning resources?

I review the Relay Learning Center two or three times a year – it’s a library of courses about maintenance, safety, compliance, and more. I encourage my drivers to look at it, too, because there’s always something new to learn or remember.

Sometimes I open up the resources and compare the information to my account or loads to see how I can apply it. The performance topic filter helps focus on specific areas like reporting late arrivals and disruptions.

“Success isn’t about overnight miracles. It’s about believing in what you do, investing time consistently, and having the patience to grow step by step.”
Mesfer Alsharman

What advice would you give to carriers to maintain a high Relay performance score?

Look at your performance metrics and safety scores to really understand what impacts your ability to book and haul loads. Focus on finding your weak areas and make specific plans to fix them. Relay’s team gives good feedback about performance score impacts if you ask questions.

Remember to be proactive with communication and build good relationships with those you work with – your dispatch, your drivers, your mechanic. Always have a Plan B.

I started with nothing as an immigrant, just one truck. Today I have 14 trucks because I stayed focused on doing things the right way. Don’t take shortcuts, keep learning. There’s always more to learn, even after years of experience. If I can do it, you can too.

Want in on the growth?

Mesfer started with one truck and a vision. Through persistent effort and smart decisions, he built a thriving fleet. That’s what momentum looks like in action. It’s not just about adding trucks – it’s how every load is a step towards something bigger.
